[Expired] Post Doctorate RA – Bioinorganic/Organometallic Chemistry at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)
At PNNL, you will find an exciting research environment and excellent benefits including health insurance, flexible work schedules and telework options. PNNL is located in eastern Washington State—the dry side of Washington known for its stellar outdoor recreation and affordable cost of living. The Lab’s campus is only a 45-minute flight (or ~3 hour drive) from Seattle or Portland, and is serviced by the convenient PSC airport, connected to 8 major hubs.
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is a world-class research institution powered by a highly educated, diverse workforce committed to collaboration and work–life balance. Every year, scores of dynamic, driven postdocs come to PNNL to work with renowned researchers on meaningful science, innovations and outcomes for the U.S. Department of Energy and other sponsors; here is your chance to be one of them!
Contribute to PNNL’s goals as a bioinorganic/organometallic chemist in the Physical Sciences Division. As a post-doctoral researcher, you will join a hardworking, multi-investigator team to explore the design, synthesis, and testing of artificial enzymes for conversions of small molecules such as CO2. You will be mentored by Wendy Shaw as you carry out experimental research to develop a mechanistic understanding of a protein-like outer coordination sphere on homogeneous catalysts. This is an exciting research project at the intersection of biological, chemical, and organometallic chemistry!
If you are ready to test your talents and training in artificial enzymes and hone your skills at a national laboratory widely recognized for its work in catalysis and the physical sciences, we want to connect with you. PNNL is committed to encouraging a work environment that promotes inclusion, diversity, equity and accountability. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply; you do not need to meet all of the Preferred Qualifications to be considered. Please include a cover letter in your application and consolidate your application into a single file.
What you will do:
Synthesis homogeneous metallo-complexes and proteins
Characterize and test artificial enzymes including techniques such as NMR, high pressure NMR, XAFS, CD, and crystallography.
Work independently and take initiative on your research project
Interact, communicate, and tackle problems with a diverse team of research staff within the catalysis program and across PNNL
Present research at conferences and project review meetings
Participate in the development of research proposals
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
• PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related degrees is strongly preferred
• Expertise with air free synthesis of organometallic complexes
• Expertise with protein synthesis
• Experience with NMR
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Independence and high motivation
• Ability to work with a team
