Recent evolutions are reshaping a few selected universities to merge with Grandes ecoles to enter the global market for higher education and research symbolized by the Shanghai ranking. The law on research funding (LPR) currently discussed in the Senate is about to complete this transformation and concentrate the public resources on a few world class universities with advantaged students populations. \nHugo Harari-Kermadec is an associate professor in economics at ENS Paris-Saclay – 14th at the Shanghai Ranking. He is the coordinator of a interdisciplinary research group on higher education (acides.hypotheses.org) and author of “Le classement de Shanghai. L’Université marchandisée“.
