Contribute to PNNL’s goals as a bioinorganic/organometallic chemist in the Physical Sciences Division. As a post-doctoral researcher, you will join a hardworking, multi-investigator team to explore the design, synthesis, and testing of artificial enzymes for conversions of small molecules such as CO2. You will be mentored by Wendy Shaw as you carry out experimental research to develop a mechanistic understanding of a protein-like outer coordination sphere on homogeneous catalysts. This is an exciting research project at the intersection of biological, chemical, and organometallic chemistry!

Responsibilities

What you will do:
Synthesis homogeneous metallo-complexes and proteins
Characterize and test artificial enzymes including techniques such as NMR, high pressure NMR, XAFS, CD, and crystallography.
Work independently and take initiative on your research project
Interact, communicate, and tackle problems with a diverse team of research staff within the catalysis program and across PNNL
Prepare manuscripts
Present research at conferences and project review meetings
Participate in the development of research proposals

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related degrees is strongly preferred

• Expertise with air free synthesis of organometallic complexes
• Expertise with protein synthesis
• Experience with NMR
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Independence and high motivation
• Ability to work with a team
